Towny is the host of communities within Craftblock. It is versatile in a way that you can either build and expand your town with a group of friends, or joining someone else's town, becoming an assistant, and successfully helping administer and expand the town into a Metropolis, in the conglomerate of a Nation. Let's say you're a homeless wanderer and want to start your own town, for everyone to join, in pursuit of becoming the biggest town on the server!

Today, we'll go over just that - how to set up, expand, and maintain a successful town.

Setting up a Town

To begin, your first step will be thinking of what you'd like the name of your new town to be. You can always change the name at a later time if needed. Once you've done a bit of brainstorming, find an area in which you want your players to spawn in your town. Choose a clear, scenic area, that isn't too close to another town so that you can expand the plot areas once your resident count begins to soar. We'll talk about how to do this later. When you've determined exactly the location of where you want the spawn point of your town to be, do this command: /town new {townname}

Then, determine what the difficulty of living in your town will be. You can enable PVP, fire, and/or mobs in your town by doing:
/t toggle {PVP|fire|mobs} {on|off}

Great! You've now created a town. This is only the beginning. You're going to want to know a few things in order to keep your town remaining prosperous and your residents happy.

MAINTAINING A TOWN

There's two crucial aspects to help you keep your town alive: friends, and money.

The first thing to consider in running a town that will be beneficial to its growth is whether you'd like to select a few assistants to help you recruit members and support the expansion of plot areas and creating your spawn, facilities, and utility buildings. Choose active, attentive players that you trust and know will cooperate with you in these beginning stages. If you and your assistants are a cohesive team, your town’s success chances are likely to be multiplied.

As resident numbers rise, try adding additional assistants in other time zones who are responsible to help manage the town. They can help you with many things, such as handling plots, adding residents, and fixing facilities.

The command to add a player as an assistant is: /t rank add {username} Assistant

The second thing you'll need to do is /t deposit {money} into your town bank. It costs $500CB in daily upkeep to ensure that your town will not fall into ruin. I recommend maintaining a minimum balance of $50,000CB, which keeps your town active for 100 days. You and your assistants should periodically check the town's bank by checking the town statistics by typing /t . Don't have $50,000CB? Needn't fret. There's a few ways you can amass some funds for your town bank. Jobs, Auctions, Stables?, Fish Competitions, Events. BUILDING YOUR TOWN

Unless you have an abundance of resources and Craftbucks, the first areas in your town that you should focus on is planning out where everything is going to be, starting with residential plot areas, facilities, farms, etc. To begin, create pathways beginning from the edge of your spawn to residential plots. Many towns use a layout of four, one chunk wide pathways extending from spawn to lead to residential plot areas. This is the most crucial area to your town as it is where your players spend a good amount of time. Make it look visually appealing, put thought into the width of your paths, think about how you'd like them illuminated, cohesion of blocks, etc.

Protip: Use F3+G to view the chunk borders to help you create pathways and plots.

Now that your path areas are established, you're going to need to claim the areas surrounding these paths to build plots on, using the command /t claim
The command is only executable when standing near the edge of what's already claimed. You will see the chat prompt Wilderness once you hit the edge of the claim. Each town claim costs $250CB, so this is where having a solid amount of funds in your town bank is essential.

The more residents you have in your town, the more areas you are able to claim.

BECOMING AN OFFICIAL TOWN

Official Towns are a relatively new feature to CraftBlock which allows Mayors to promote their town through a few perks. Listed below are the criteria a town must meet prior to qualifying for an Official status.

Benefits of making your town Official:
The plan is to create unique benefits for town mayors who can further make their town special and appealing to a wider array of players.
  • A warp in Spawn to attract new players to your town!
  • Mayors with official towns will have ✤ next to their prefix.
  • Holographic Displays: Town mayors who have a town of 20 residents or larger will gain permissions that allow to create floating text in their town, which are great for spawns and plot types. Approved official town mayors shall only use Holo Displays within the confines of their town.
  • Official Town Mayors will have the title noted as "Mayor of Town" in the notes portion of their Discord profile
  • and more coming soon!
Requirements:
  • Town must be set to open. /t toggle open
  • At-least five residents, excluding town mayor.
  • At-least one assistant. Work together!
  • A spawn with a town board, with town instructions, town rules, and other information you think a town will need.
  • Structures: A shop with an active shop keeper, a public mine, public farm, an inn/motel/hotel, and a few resident houses.
  • One unique building. We want creative and unique towns, build something awesome for people to love your town for.
  • An organized plot system and streets. The town can not look like houses are randomly allover the place. Keep the town clean and well structured. Check out spawn's city for an example.
  • Ten open plots that are ready to claim at any given moment. Always check to make sure there are open plots!

  • Lore: Tell us some background of your town, it could be anything, such as history of your town, why it was made, or even a silly event that happened in the making of it. Just be creative!
  • Residents: List or screenshot list of residents.
  • Shop Goods: Tell us what you're selling at the shop, the prices, and who is the shop keeper.
  • Coordinates: Where is the town spawn? Press F3 for coordinates.
  • Screenshots: Show us screenshots of structures that are required, as well as the unique building and the plot and street system.
